Family Therapy Program (FTP)

The Family Therapy Program offers therapeutic counseling for children and their families/caregivers who are experiencing relationship difficulties and are referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Program Features

  • Family Therapists will meet with you individually and/or together as a family
  • Family Therapists can be involved with your family for up to six months depending on what is helpful and practical for you. Further service can be extended with the consultation of the referring social worker
  • Provides clients with a safe, supportive and non judgmental therapeutic experience that promotes new learning about self to enhance self-growth and personal development

Desired Client Outcomes

The client family system will experience an improvement in overall functioning through a process of:

  • Enhanced self awareness for the client(s) served
  • A lowering of emotional reactivity within the client family system
  • The development of a more thoughtful and creative response to the presenting life challenges for clients
  • Client(s) improved capacity to assume responsibility for self’s thoughts, feelings and actions
  • A strengthening of connection for clients with other family and community resources

Our Staff

Our staff members are professionally trained therapists with graduate degrees in clinical social work and counselling psychology. The Family Therapy Program is staffed by therapists with extensive training and experience in working with children and families. Therapeutic modalities include Bowen Family Systems Theory, Solution Focused Therapy; EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing); Play Therapy; Art Therapy; Theraplay and Attachment Theory. Therapists maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments in the field of individual and family therapy and participate in regular clinical supervision.
